Spire currently care for tenants living in Supported Living environments across Preston and have numerous Outreach Projects.
Supported Living
What is Supported Living?
Unfortunately the term supported or independent living has been misused throughout the years and possibly conjures up images of isolation and desertion. Supported living is not about placing people with learning disabilities within communities to fend for themselves without adequate support. Supported living is about offering adequate amounts of support to people to enable them to live valued lives in a way which they choose.
Supported living aims to enable the individual with learning disabilities to make choices and live within a valued community and use mainstream integrated services whenever necessary. It also aims to allow people to make choices for themselves, increase opportunities for the individual, promote friendships, promote a healthy and secure living environment, and nurture development.
Supported living can be successful for anyone, regardless of the severity of the learning disability.
Outreach
What is Outreach?
We have a committed team of Support Workers who visit the homes of individuals with learning disabilities to help them improve their quality of life and increase their independence. Some roles may be to promote a safe and healthy living environment, other roles may be more socially orientated.
Staff can help with daily chores, shopping, support people to go to places of interest, pursue hobbies, or help to learn new skills or activities.
Outreach projects allow the individual to live in his or her familiar living environment, while increasing their independence.
