Learning Disability Awareness Week 2011

Learning Disability Awareness Week (LDAW) this year will run from Monday 20th June to Sunday 26th June.

The event opens at West View Leisure Centre, (Ribbleton, Preston, PR1 5EP) with the LDAW Launch Day from 10.30am to 3pm on Monday 20th. There will be over 20 information and interactive stalls including a stall from Spire, a Smoothie Maker bicycle, inclusive Wii and Wii Fit as well as an X-Box Kinect, plus other activities. In addition to that, at 11am there will be a live drama production.

On Tuesday 21st LDAW moves to the Odeon Cinema at the docks (Riversway, Preston, PR2 2YQ) where there will be screenings between 10am and 11am about Employment for People with Learning Disabilities, and Hate Crime. Between 12.30pm and 3.30pm there will be a Communication presentation and Fair Access to Care Information presentation from React in Room A of the Town Hall on Lancaster Road (Preston, PR1 2RL). There is also a scheduled Questions and Answers session with LCC Head Commissioner Ian Crabtree.

A Hate Crime Conference takes place at the Gujurat Hindu Society (South Meadow Lane, Preston, PR1 8JN) on Wednesday 22nd from 10am to 3pm. This includes information from the fire service, trading standards, PRESCAP, safer travel plus more. (Please note, no lunch available or food allowed on premises)

The Spire-led Old Bull/Kolor Bar social evening takes place from 6.30pm on Wednesday 22nd (Church Street, Preston, PR1 3BT). Entry is £2 and free for carers/support workers. As a special LDAW treat there is a 'favourites' fancy dress theme to the night, with the finishing time extended to 11pm. Attendees are asked to dress as their favourite actor, singer, footballer or simply in their favourite colour, whatever they like, with a prize for the best costume. People can also submit their favourite songs at the door to be played throughout the night. The evenings entertainment will be supplied by Dave Wayne who will be putting on a karaoke and disco from 7pm to 11pm.

The Wheels For All Fun Morning takes place between 10am and 12pm on Thursday 23rd at Moor Park (Preston, PR1 1LA). Between 1pm and 3pm it's the Fantastic Fashion Show at St Walburghs Church Centre (Preston, PR1 8DU), open for all. There is also a Wii Fit, X-Box 360 Kinect and other activities.

On Friday 24th between 10am and 4pm LDAW will be on the Flag Market (Preston Town Centre, PR1 2PP) with a Hate Crime Awareness Event, including the Citizen Zone Bus.

On Sunday 26th LDAW draws to a close with the Integrate Garden Party at Sew & Grow on Haslam Park (Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, PR2 1JE). Everyone welcome!
