National Learning Disability Awareness Week June 21st - 27th
Tuesday 15th June 2010
National Learning Disability Awareness Week is almost here!
A week of events have been organised by the Lancashire Learning Disability Team from Monday 21st June to Sunday 27th June.
The event kicks off with a Launch Day at The Guild Hall and Charter Theatre on Lancaster Road, from 11am to 3pm. This is upstairs from the shops. Here there will be information stalls, drama performances and much more.
There are two events arranged for Tuesday morning between 10am and 12pm. There is an employment event at the Odeon Cinema at the Docks for employers to promote the recruitment of employees to work with people with learning disabilities, and at Preston Carers Centre, 28 Church Street, there is a session on personalisation and self-directed support for carers of people with a learning disability.
Wednesday 23rd June there is a fun day at Moor Park, with lots of activities organised. There is also a led walk arranged. Meet at the Bowling Green Pavilion at 10.45am until 12pm for a fully inclusive led walk. Meet at the pavilion in the centre of the park at 12pm for an hour long Wheels 4 All session, cycling around the park. There is another Wheels 4 All session meeting at the same place from 1pm until 3pm.
From 1pm to 3pm on Thursday 24th there is the Fantastic Fashion Show which is available to the general public at St Walburges Church on Weston Street (PR1 8DU). Other interactive sessions are taking place there that afternoon including chair based exercise, Wii Sports, pottery and an art exhibition. At 6pm until late there is a live band and singer at a superb inclusive social evening at the church. Tickets are available at just £2.
The flyer you may have seen is actually wrong for Friday 25th. The event is NOT from 6pm until late. The Inclusive Fitness Iniative (IFI) runs from 10am to 12pm at West View Leisure Centre (PR1 5EP), and 1pm to 3pm at Fulwood Leisure Centre (PR2 9YA). This is your chance to find out about opportunities being offered in leisure centres in Preston.
There are no planned activities for Saturday 26th June. However this is likely to be the date of England's second round World Cup tie. Spire's World Cup Friendship Group will be meeting at theFulwood Leisure Centre cafe bar at 7.30pm to watch the game. Entry is totally free.
On Sunday 27th June there is a garden party organised at Thurlby Club, 47 Egerton Road, Ashton (PR2 1AL). There will be a raffle, tombola, bouncy castle, stalls, games and a barbeque. It promises to be a great family afternoon and finish to Learning Disability Awareness Week 2010.
