Spire: Family Led Supported Living

Spire is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We were last reviewed in February 2010 and were rated EXCELLENT.

The following extracts are taken from the CQC website at http://www.cqc.org.uk

"Staff receive training during induction in understanding the different needs of people with learning disabilities so staff are able to support people who experience different ethnic, religious, sexual or cultural lifestyles and experiences."

"...people that use the service are involved in meetings about how the agency is managed. The meeting does not include staff and is led by a volunteer so people using the agency are able to give their views about the service they receive. By asking people what they want the agency has been able to respond by arranging care around the needs of people using the service so the care they receive responds to their individual needs. Examples of this are supporting a person to get paid employment, supporting a person to move into their own accommodation and changing staff to suit the preference of people using the agency. The agency has also rented an allotment so people using the service have the opportunity to grow things of their choice."

"[Spire] includes people that use services in the recruitment of staff and they choose the people that support them so are able to influence the staff employed"

"[CQC] received comments from people using the service. Comments received were, 'Support workers help look after me. Do the activities I want to do. I feel safe in my house', 'I get good support and feel safe', 'Help me to keep my independence', 'Help keep me healthy and safe', 'They make sure I get to take part in activities I enjoy such as snooker, drama, bowling and karaoke. The help me make long lasting friendships' and 'I complete lots of different activities and am supported to maintain lots of friendships'."

"[Spire] is managed in a way that shows it has the interests of the people using it at the centre of what it does."
